We often work with people who may need to restrict their diet at some point during their treatment. However, this should not last forever. In fact, too much restriction can reduce the amount of key nutrients one can get from diet! In this insightful episode, I sat down with Dr. Sarah Ballantyne who has done extensive research on nutrient density! She shares resources for determining nutritious foods and how to avoid nutrient deficiencies.

0:25.6 | If you're on a restrictive diet to improve your health, there are some strings that come attached, |
0:31.6 | and this comes via nutrient efficiencies or the potential of missing out on key nutrients in your diet, whether |
0:38.8 | it's a low carb or low histamine or low phobamp diet. This is why I think the work that Dr. |
0:44.9 | Sarah Ballantyne is doing and discussed today on the show is so crucially important. The one thing |
0:51.3 | amongst a very fruitful conversation I want to point you to is the resources she has for if someone is on a given diet, let's say low carb, what common nutrient insufficiencies can occur on that diet and therefore using her list of top foods to consume that will supply those nutrients. |
1:16.6 | This is something that I feel is of crucial importance, again, because we get so much information |
1:24.5 | on what to cut out of the diet, but not enough on what to include |
1:28.0 | and perhaps more practically, if you do notice that you do better, let's say, skew toward low |
1:33.5 | phobmap or low histamine, what risks of nutrient deficiencies does that diet pose, and how can |
1:40.7 | you eat those foods or cue in on certain foods that you might run the risk of being |
1:47.0 | deficient in? |
1:48.3 | Sarah is a wealth of knowledge. |
1:50.2 | We have a very similar perspective on being evidence guided and practical. |
1:54.9 | And her book that we discussed today is called Nutrivor about how to create a diet plan that |
2:00.2 | focuses on nutrient density. And I think you |
2:03.1 | will find this conversation incredibly helpful if you're struggling with how to eat, what to eat, |
2:09.2 | and how to make sure you have adequate nutrition, which is going to be a foundation for long-term health. |
2:15.1 | So with that, we'll now go to the interview with Dr. Sarah Ballantyne. |
2:20.3 | Sarah, welcome back to the show. Like I was saying before, I'm so excited that you're here. |
