So let's look at an account from the book of Daniel. We're going to be in Daniel chapter

four. But before we get into that, let me just lay some really, really basic historical context for the

Book of Daniel. And if you want to hear more of an overview of the Old Testament, I will link to

an older episode I did where the whole point of the episode is just a very brief overview

of the Old Testament. But for the sake of our discussion today, centuries prior to the book

of Daniel, the nation of Israel split into two kingdoms. It was the nation of Israel was in the

north, in the nation of Judah in the south. Then in the year 722 BC, the northern kingdom of

Israel was handed over to the Assyrians who conquered it and

carried off the northern tribes of Israel. Then, about a century and a half later, something

very similar happened to the southern kingdom of Judah, except instead of Assyria, it was

the world's superpower of Babylon.
