Summary

The book of Hebrews is written to people who are so beaten down with troubles that they’re ready to give up. The writer is trying to give the readers what they need to handle the brutal realities of life in this world. In Hebrews 11, he gives us something that helps us handle anything. If you have it, you can handle absolutely anything life throws at you: 1) what is it? and 2) how do we get it? 0:12.0	Sound familiar? Today, Tim Keller is preaching from the book of Hebrews, showing us how fixing our eyes on Jesus is the only way to truly deal with the challenges we face in our lives.
0:28.4	Tonight's scripture reading is Hebrews chapter 11 verses 32 through 40.
0:34.4	And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell you about Gideon, Barrack, Samson, Jephtha, David, Samuel, and the prophets,
0:43.3	who through faith, conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised,
0:49.3	who shut the mouth of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of a sword,
0:56.1	whose weakness was turned to strength, and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.
1:02.9	Women received back their dead, raised to life again.
1:07.8	Others were tortured and refused to be released so that they might gain a better resurrection.
1:14.0	Some face jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison.
1:19.1	They were stoned. They were sod in two. They were put to death by the sword.
1:25.0	They went about in sheepskin and goat skins, destitute, persecuted, and mistreated.
1:31.9	The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains and in caves and holes in the
1:38.5	ground. These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.
1:46.6	God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
1:54.0	This is the Word of the Lord.
1:56.9	We've been looking at the book of Hebrews, and every week we've been seeing that the book is about, or it's written to people who are suffering, people who are so beaten down with difficulties and troubles and problems that they're ready to give up.
