Like we talked about before we hit record,

everybody has a story. And our passion is to help them tell it. So with your permission,

we're going to start with where you were born, go all the way up to today. And then we want

to talk about these four amazing books that you've written. Thank you, Mike, for having me

on the show. I'm looking forward to telling this story, and I appreciate you letting me do it.

Well, I was born in 1936, so the math says I'm 88, and actually I'm still in good health.

I work in my yard and all that kind of stuff if I want to, but back to the beginning.

I was born in the Piney Woods of East Texas in a small town.

The town's called Slocom.

You wouldn't know about it unless you'd been there because it only has 200 people.

In fact, I wasn't even born in the town.
