We need to start looking at political science through the lens of subsidiarity and ask ourselves

the question, how do we prevent what has happened over the last hundred years, which is that

wherever you look, governments have been on a one-way trajectory in terms of their scale.

They've been growing and growing and growing.

And decision-making has been ever more centralized.

What do we need to do in terms of the ways in which we articulate our policies, our democracies? How should we articulate

them, our constitutions, our institutional structures to enshrine and protect subsidiarity.

That for me is the single most interesting task ahead of us in political science.

People tend to get obsessed with how to avoid cheating in elections or how to prevent pork barreling in legislative processes

or how to prevent corruption.

I don't think that's where the attention should be.

Those things follow naturally from centralization and increasing scale of government.

We ought to be applying our mind to how localization can be fostered, decentralization,

subsidiarity, and then those problems will go away or at least moderate.
