It was a warm late spring day,

as police officer Deborah Sue Korr was out patrolling the streets of Aurora, Colorado.

Deborah Sue Korr was a patrol officer with the Aurora Police Department.

This is Kevin Vaughn, an investigative reporter at Nine News in Denver.

She was on patrol.

She made a traffic stop and attempted to arrest the person that she stopped.

And as she was attempting to handcuff him, he broke free.

There was a struggle. He got his hands on her weapon.

The man fired, striking officer Korr.

He also shot a Aurora Police Explorer scout.
