Summary

In our episode with Jim Harris, we talked about how a spinal cord injury left him partially paralyzed, and then how 8 months into his recovery he regained some lost sensation and movement after taking psilocybin at a music festival. When we recorded, we talked for a long time….right up to when his window of availability was closing. But as I wrapped up and got ready to say goodbye, he said: can I ask you a few questions? It was interesting to hear what he was wondering about after I’d asked him questions for such a long stretch. So we kept talking… and we thought we’d share that with you too. So we kept talking and we thought we'd share that with you too.

What are you wondering?

0:51.4

Anna, you are so good at this kind of perspective taking interview style.

0:57.0

It kind of feels like there's almost two different skills that are,

1:01.0

that come through and the way that you listen and ask questions.

1:05.6

And one of those skills,

1:07.0

is this very deep kind of emotional empathy,

1:11.0

but then also the same time,

1:12.4

right in parallel is it is a very cognitive empathy where you're like asking a question,

1:16.4

refining whatever preconceptions you had about me or whatever else you're interviewing,

1:22.4

and then using that to make a about me or wherever else you're interviewing.

1:22.6

And then using that to make a more refined sort of model

1:26.9

that you're using to update the next questions.
