In the beginning, the fear of abuse was constant.

You know, it was 24-7, but then after a while it didn't scare me anymore

because I was made to feel like I had deserved it. I had to be the perfect Muslim for them and that created this duplicity within myself

and if I didn't do what they wanted me to do and follow exactly how they wanted us to do, that I would have left the
