Hello, everyone. Welcome to Slash Film Daily. Today's Friday, November 15th, 2024. On today's episode of the show, we're going to be talking about Sean Baker's newest movie, and Nora, and present an interview with writer-director, Sean Baker. My name is Ben Pearson. I'm an editor at Slashfilm.com, and I'm joined on today's episode by SlashFilm editor, Jacob Hall. Hello, hello. All right, apologies for not having an episode yesterday. We're kind of ramping up the number of articles that we publish at Slashfilm.

0:27.1

So our responsibilities at the site have us stretched a little thinner than usual.

0:28.5

So I just kind of dropped the ball yesterday.

0:33.4

But I'm very excited, Jacob, to finally talk to you about this movie because I was actually planning on running Bill Brea's interview with Sean Baker today, even though I hadn't had a

0:38.1

chance to see the film yet, just because it's been several weeks since that interview was conducted.

0:42.4

And I was kind of resigned to just waiting until this movie finally hit streaming to watch it,

0:47.0

because it just looked like the rollout was never going to make it to my area in northeast Florida.

0:51.3

But thankfully, I happened to check my local listings and see that it

0:54.5

had expanded to a theater close enough to me where I could go see it. So I watched it last night.

0:59.1

I know you reviewed this at a Fantastic Fest and you called it the best movie the year. With a little

1:03.3

distance, what do you think about in Nora? Do you still stand by that proclamation?

1:08.1

Well, since I saw a Fantastic Fest, you know, people would talk about the film festival bubble

1:11.4

about how people have ecstatic reactions at a festival, then a more muted reaction later.

1:17.5

I don't necessarily think that's always true, but it is a phenomenon that does exist.

1:21.9

But I've seen Inora three times now, and it's the best film of the year.

1:25.7

Wow. Okay.

1:27.8

All right.

1:28.4

So I want to talk to you sort of broadly about it and then we can get into spoilers.

1:32.3

So just to kick things off.

1:34.0

Before you do that, what do you agree?

1:38.6

Did you love as much as I did or did you like it?

1:40.7

I would love to know your basic opinion going into this.
