Summary

It was a crime made for the headlines: GOOD TWIN VS. EVIL TWIN. The twins themselves, Sunny and Gina Han, disagreed with the headlines. But you couldn’t deny that something had gone wrong between them, because now one of them was in shackles, and one of them was on the witness stand. *** Support the podcast by supporting today’s sponsor. I'm guessing you probably remember it. Some of you will never have heard of it.

I'm always amazed sometimes when I'm researching cases, you'll find people talking about how big the case was.

0:51.0

It was front pages all over the country. It was international news. Every TV show was covering it around the clock.

0:59.0

And it'll be a case I've never heard of. And you know why that is? It's actually sad.

1:03.0

It's just not only are there just so many crime cases happening all the time.

1:08.0

But there are so many quote-unquote front page crimes happening.

1:12.0

Like there are so many super famous crimes, air quotes, that they actually don't all stay famous.

1:18.0

Isn't that weird? Slightly related. You'll notice that more than one crime per century is called the crime of the century.

1:26.0

Anyway, this crime was I don't think ever called the crime of the century in America at least.

1:31.0

But it's a wild one. We're going to talk about the case of the Han Twins.

And we are going to travel to a time and a place where I'll say it.

1:42.0

It would have been really cool to have your vans on skateboarding by the ocean, listening to Nirvana.

1:50.0

But that's not what this story is about. But we're going to Southern California in the 90s. Follow me there.

1:56.0

Like many kids, I always wanted to be a twin. When I was in sixth grade, I met this magical set of twins.

2:18.0

And they were fascinating enough to make me feel that being a twin was something deeply special.
