0:46.3	about you, but I am ready to roll. Today is Friday, February 10th, 2023. For today's first story, we are heading back to Monday morning. Like many of you,
0:58.0	I awoke that day to learn about the devastating earthquake that hit parts of Turkey and Syria that
1:03.2	has killed over 10,000 people as of this recording, and likely thousands of more are injured, and those
1:09.6	numbers are estimated to increase even more over the coming days.
1:14.5	The quake two and also the aftershocks and secondary quakes that followed, of course, not only damaged other human beings,
1:21.8	but also many buildings and works of cultural importance.
1:26.0	As the days pass, we will most likely learn of the extent of
1:29.4	the historical and cultural devastation, but for now, we know that a couple of major structures
1:35.0	have been reduced to rubble. The first is the Gaziantep Castle, which is a site in southeastern
1:41.4	Turkey that has a long history spanning back to the Roman era around
1:45.7	the second or third century C.E. and was expanded into these huge battlements during the reign
1:51.1	of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 5th century C.E. Part of a historic mosque from the 17th century
1:58.1	right next door to the castle was also destroyed, and the cathedral
