We're tackling the issues of the day through interviews with high profile guests and conversations with a rotating panel of the country's best and leading thinkers, influencers and writers.

I'm not only an attorney and a former elected official. Sometimes you see me on CNN and I'm a new author of a New York Times best-selling book, My Vanishing Country.

But now we're introducing the Bakari Sellers podcast and we're going to cover everything from the 2020 election to sports and culture to the larger movement for racial equality in the United States.

We're going to have some of your favorite quarterbacks, some of your favorite politicians, some of your favorite athletes, writers, singers, actors, actresses.

We were kids, tanked with breakfast, tanked with lunch. The TV was saying it was what the astronaut's drank on their way to the moon. You drank it? Well, didn't you be an astronaut too?

All summer long, that shit was all a hair-kid's drink. What do you think they grew up to be?

Nika did that shit to hurt me, man. But, you know, man, D was just fucking weak. You know, man, sad will happen. As you get sad, it is. I love the job, Mom. I can't help it.

Job doesn't love you. You know, when you stand with Nika, you stand with him today and otherwise. Why'd you eat nothing yourself?

So here we are season two, episode seven, Backwash. Backwash is such a nasty term. Like immediately when I saw with the title of this episode was, I just kind of turned my nose to like Backwash.

Are you one of those people, Van, who do you believe in Backwash? Do you not finish? I'm one of those people. I don't finish water bottles all the way because of Backwash. Is that weird?

Yes. You don't finish your own water bottles?

My own water bottle, which is crazy, right? Because I know I know where I've been. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on. Before we get into the episode, I can understand not one drink because I always had this thing.

I would see people drinking after eating like in football. Like we didn't have a little spray things. We still were on cups in the South.

I would see people hand off water. I would never do that. This is pre-COVID. I would never, ever, ever drink behind you dog. I don't know where you've been. But you don't finish your own bottle of water because of Backwash.

I do. It's such a weird thing.

Like I don't, I don't.

I think I see people running tally of all the peculiar shit that goes on in the life and times of Jamel Hill. You're afraid of...

So you're just giving away water. You're giving away Designing and Aquafina and all of that stuff. You're just letting it go for no reason because of your own Backwash.

Look, once somebody kind of told me that or you know, you just kind of learn what Backwash is as you take this very healthy swig of water. Are you going to finish that to the end?

I definitely will.
