Sunshine streamed through the trees on a peaceful November afternoon in 1987.

Twelve-year-old Sean Kingy peddled her bicycle along familiar streets towards home,

unaware that those moments would become the last glimpse of her freedom.

The peaceful coastal town of Nusa would never be the same after November 27th, a day that shattered

the community's sense of safety and launched Queensland's most extensive manhunt.

This is Monsters. On November 11th,, 24-year-old Cheryl Mortimer was leaving a shopping center in Ipswich

about 25 miles or 40 kilometers southwest of Brisbane and Queensland, Australia.

Once out on the road, she saw a young woman standing

next to her car motioning for help. Cheryl pulled up next to the woman, assuming she needed directions.

As soon as she rolled her window down, a young man appeared and grabbed her keys from the ignition.

Then he pulled out a knife and pointed it at Cheryl's

throat. The man was not careful with the blade and ended up cutting himself on the hand. Before he was

able to make any demands, though, someone else approached them and scared the assailants away.

Cheryl drove straight to the police station and reported the incident.

She was able to give a description of the two individuals as well as a description of the vehicle,

a white station wagon. She believed the license plate was LL-E-439. The man had also left a smeared bloody fingerprint on the window of her car.

When the police tracked down the vehicle with that plate number, it turned out to be a

Toyota Corolla owned by someone who hadn't even been in Queensland at the time.

It turned out that Cheryl hadn't remembered the license plate correctly, but it was

likely something similar. After the constable working, the case posted a notice in the newspaper

asking for anyone with similar experiences to come forward, he was contacted by two nurses

who both worked at Ipswich General Hospital. They had each had separate experiences
