Hi everyone, it's Sophia and welcome back to work in progress.

I am so excited to have been given the chance to sit down with two legends, Ben Cohen and

Jerry Greenfield, better known to most of us as Ben and Jerry of Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

Some of you may be more familiar with these two guys for their incredibly successful and

super delicious ice cream business, but they are also lifelong friends and lifelong activists.

They've both been recognized for fostering their company's commitment to social responsibility

by the Council on Economic Priorities and by the United States Small Business Administration.

They've also received the James Beard Humanitarians of the Year Award,

the Peace Museum's Community Peace Makers of the Year Award, and the Corporate Giving Award.

Ben has served on the boards of Greenpeace, Business for Social Responsibility and Heifer International,

the Social Venture Network, Hampshire College, and Oxfam.

And in addition, Ben also served as the National Co-chair of the Bernie 2020 campaign.

Jerry is involved in promoting the Social and Environmental Initiatives that Ben and Jerry's

undertakes, and he is the Vice President of the Ben and Jerry's Foundation. Presently, the two

are laser focused on their campaign to fight to end qualified immunity, which we'll discuss in

detail today. It is an incredibly important and extremely timely effort, especially in light

of the recent verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd and the recent

murder by police of Dante Wright. We discuss how they became so invested in this issue, their mission

statement, police brutality, and Black Lives Matter. We also, of course, talk about the history

of Ben and Jerry's, the fascinating science, and what might be unexpected engineering behind

ice cream making, and what makes theirs so unique. I'm excited for you all to dig into this

treat of an episode and hear what these two great businessmen and humanitarians have to share with us today.
