0:00.0 | Hey everyone, it's Adrienne here. |
0:06.3 | Today's episode is the first in our series of compilations and today's show is all about runners. |
0:12.8 | So I've talked to loads of different runners on this show and whether you are brand new to running or whether you've been running for years. |
0:18.8 | I really hope that you will enjoy today's episode, hearing their stories and hearing their words of wisdom and encouragement. |
0:26.3 | I really enjoyed listening back to the old episodes and selecting the clips for this show. |
0:31.6 | So enjoy. |
0:53.1 | So you did the 5K, obviously you got the bug, you thought, yeah, you know, you weren't running marathons then, but I want to know, how long did it take from that point to getting to, I mean, what you've done now is insane, but to getting to the point of thinking I can actually take on this insane challenge. |
0:55.2 | Well, contrary to popular belief, again, I didn't fall in love with it straight away. You know, I achieved that 5K and I remember |
0:59.8 | getting back to the pub and everything from my ankles to my knees to my hips, even the rolls of |
1:03.0 | fat around me hurt. But for the first time in 20 years, I actually felt something and it was pain. |
1:08.0 | And, you know, it might be sadistic to some people, but because I felt something, it was pain and you know it might be sadistic to some people but because I |
1:11.2 | felt something that's what then took me back the next time not the love for it that came later |
1:16.3 | and I think you know there was still the nervousness on the second week and the third week and |
1:21.1 | the fourth week and probably more you know even now there's a slight nervousness of course there is |
1:26.6 | but I remember after six months of going twice a week, I signed up to my first half marathon, which was the Bristol half marathon. I remember running that. And, you know, I live in Bristol and it's a beautiful city. I didn't enjoy the half. Not because the race is bad, but it was just, it was too fast for me. |
1:46.2 | And I remember getting to the finishing line and thinking, I'm never running in my life ever again. |
1:50.5 | I went back to club on the Tuesday night after that and told a mate of mine that. And he went, well, |
1:54.7 | this is ironic considering you're at a running club. And then he kind of started to talk to me about, well, if you don't like half marathons, well, why don't you try running a marathon? |
2:02.9 | Because that'll be better. |
2:04.0 | Well, this is what I thought at the time. |
2:05.8 | And I thought there's no logic in that. |
2:07.4 | But this is what I didn't understand at the time. |
