You know, tonight's kind of a special night for me.

Tonight I celebrate 20 years sober um i just want to say that there's a lot of people that lost a lot of money on that

you know if you'd have seen me in my first couple of years, you wouldn't have been rooting for me

to be one of the long-timers in Alcoholics Anonymous. But, you know, I found a home here. I found a way of

life that's just incredible. Incredible things have happened over the past 20 years. The scales have been balanced.

You know, I came into Alcoholics Anonymous really feeling like I had been a scumbagged most of my life and I'd taken more than I'd given.

And I'd let a lot of people down and I'd robbed people of emotional and financial security,

and my self-esteem was in the toilet,

and I thought that, you know,

there's probably going to be no way I'm ever going to be able to redeem myself to these people.

And actually, you know, that certainly, certainly was possible.

You know, I want to say something about my friend Bill over here who isn't here.

I want to say something about tapers because my life was basically saved by someone who handed me a set of workshop tapes.

I had been in Alcoholics Anonymous about a year and I wasn't going to last much longer.
