Tensions are heating up in a Boston courtroom,

with the attention on the defendant at the center of the case, Karen Reed.

Reed has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of her then-boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe.

On January 29, 2022, Officer O'Keefe was found unresponsive in the snow outside of a home in Canton, Massachusetts.

An autopsy later ruled Officer O'Keefe's cause of death was hypothermia and blunt force trauma.

Reed was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under

the influence, and leaving the scene of personal injury or death.

Reid has pleaded not guilty and alleges that she has been framed as part of a police cover-up.

Joining me today with a look at the many twists and turns of this high-profile case is Fox 25 Boston reporter Ted Daniel.

Ted, earlier this week, we saw the Karen Reed murder trial kickoff.

Now give us some background into the case at hand.

Yeah, this case has been going on for more than two years now.

It began on January 29, 2022, when the body of a Boston police officer was found in the snow in

Canton, Massachusetts. That's a suburb of Boston, about 30 minutes south. And at first, we now know

that officers didn't know what they had, but within 28, 48 hours, they charged the officer's girlfriend, Karen

Reed, with striking him. Initially, it was a manslaughter case, but then later they

indicted her for second-degree murder. And the reason why there's so much attention on this case

is the defense has claimed that Karen Reed has been framed, and they blame

prosecution witnesses, and they say that law enforcement is involved in what they characterize as a

cover-up. The fact that there are allegations of a deeper cover-up scheme than that it, you know, allegedly

involves law enforcement, sort of reads like a Hollywood film, right? So tell us a little bit
