Before she could tie on her green apron that day,

Phoebe had the bulk of the day's work pinned on her aching shoulders, two coffee makers

in a cold bar, alone. Now, body sore, she sat in her happy place. The front seat of her small

SUV parked at White Rock Lake. The light October breeze climbed in through a cracked window

as Phoebe breathed in the damp, grassy smell. Her stomach grumbled as she grabbed a

pokey bowl from the plastic bag on the seat beside her. Meal prep and the groceries in her

trunk could wait. With her audiobook playing, she cracked the plastic lid off the bowl and surveyed the park.
