Chris Ekemoff is a forensic accountant.

And at one point, his firm got a call from the CEO of a company that was a client. The

CEO had discovered something about the chief financial officer. It wasn't good.

It appears that he has been taking money from the business inappropriately and I'd like to understand how much and how it happened.

The company had been looking at its payroll numbers and they noticed a discrepancy.

The budget for employee salaries and benefits was

three million dollars. And the actual spend that year was four and a half million

dollars. That's a 50% increase over budget which you don't have to be accountant to know.

That's massive.

And so the CFO, one questioned about it by the CEO, didn't make up a story.

He said, you know, I've been stealing from the company for three years.
