Superman's history. He appeared on radio before he ever showed up on the big and

small screens. In fact, the celebrated cartoons produced by the

Fleischer Studios employed the voice cast of the radio show in the roles of Clark Ken, Superman, and Lois Lane.

The Radio Adventures of Superman premiered in February 1940,

just about two years after the character made his first appearance in action comics.

The writers of the radio series made additions to the character in his world that are still canon to this day.

That device was created in part to give Series Star Clayton Bud Collier a chance to take a breather from the show now and again,

Superman could fall under a villain's control and be unconscious in the presence of kryptonite.

It meant some of his friends would have to look for him and Collier could get a few days off.
