Sheryl “Mac” McCollum is an Emmy Award winning CSI, a writer for CrimeOnLine, Forensic and Crime Scene Expert for Crime Stories with Nancy Grace, and a CSI for a metro Atlanta Police Department. She is the co-author of the textbook., Cold Case: Pathways to Justice. Sheryl is also the founder and director of the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute, a collaboration between universities and colleges that brings researchers, practitioners, students and the criminal justice community together to advance techniques in solving cold cases and assist families and law enforcement with solvability factors for unsolved homicides, missing persons, and kidnapping cases.

Two boys from my old neighborhood were best friends. They lived on the same street and were the same grade in school. Eric was a tremendous athlete. Football, baseball star. He was a student government rep. He was one of those

just all around good guys. Everybody liked him. Jeremy was not involved in anything extracurricular.

No clubs, no sports, nothing school sponsored at all. When they were seniors,

they pulled a stunt, they got called, they got suspended for five days. That should have been it.

Equal treatment. But because Eric was suspended that week, he couldn't play in the big game.

Because he couldn't play in the big game, the college that was scouting him didn't get to see him play.
