Summary

Join Jim and Greg for 3 Martini Lunch, as they discuss Senate Majority Leader John Thune vowing to make Democrats pay for holding up President Trump’s cabinet nominations, President Trump’s decision to designate the Houthis as terrorists once again, and former CIA Director John Brennan’s attempt to cover up his previous laptop lie with more falsehoods.

First, Jim and Greg commend Senate Republicans for standing firm against Democratic attempts to delay the confirmation of President Trump’s cabinet nominees. With Democrats blocking quick consideration on the Senate floor, they may find themselves stuck in Washington over the weekend when the final votes take place.

Next, they cheer President Trump’s decision to reclassify the Iran-backed Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization. After Joe Biden removed the Houthis from the list upon taking office, he later imposed much lighter sanctions on the group. This move was widely viewed as an attempt to appease Iran, even as the Houthis continued to create chaos for shipping in the Red Sea and throughout the region.

Finally, they get a good laugh as former CIA Director John Brennan whines to MSNBC about Trump rescinding his security clearance. Brennan, along with dozens of others, falsely claimed in 2020 that the Hunter Biden laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign. Now, he tries to backpedal, claiming he never said it was disinformation, but rather a “Russian information operation.” Jim and Greg are having none of it.

Three martini's coming up.

Hey, really glad you're with us for the Thursday edition of the three martini lunch.

0:17.1

We have good, good, and crazy martinis for you today.

0:20.8

The first one's a little bit complicated, but let's jump into it. You may remember that martini lunch. We have good, good, and crazy martinis for you today. The first one's a little bit

0:21.7

complicated, but let's jump into it. You may remember that Marco Rubio was confirmed as Secretary

0:26.9

of State on Monday, just hours after President Trump was inaugurated. And since then, the Senate has

0:32.2

confirmed zero of Trump's nominees. That's because Democrats are trying to slow play the confirmation

0:39.3

process. Usually once it's reported out of committee, pretty much goes to a cloture vote and then a

0:44.5

final vote. But Democrats are objecting to that process, and that means we're going to get

0:49.4

hours and hours of debate on these nominees, especially in the ones they really don't like, but they're doing

0:55.2

it with all the nominees except for Rubio, including John Ratcliffe, who made it out of committee by a 14 to

1:02.0

three vote. And so that did not sit well with the Intel Committee Chairman Tom Cotton, nor does it

1:07.3

sit well with his new Senate majority leader, John Thune, who says Democrats,

1:11.5

all right, you want to play it this way? We'll play it this way.

1:13.9

Okay, so 14 to 3 coming out of the committee.

1:17.4

And we've now wasted a whole day where we could have been acting on that nomination.

1:22.8

And so really, I think the question before the House is,

1:26.1

do we want to vote on these folks on Tuesday or vote on them on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday? Because that's what we're going to do. This can be easy or this can be hard. This is a nominee that came out of the Intelligence Committee 14 to 3. It is a bipartisan nomination to the Central Intelligence Agency.

1:47.3

This is about America's national security interests.

1:51.1

And we're stalling.
