You know, it's the ultimate stealth accessory.

Even Harry Potter, the most famous magician known to today's kids prized the cloak of invisibility

gifted to him by his father. Now let's admit it we hunters are kids at heart

we thrive on adventure, on exploring uncharted territory, and overcoming great challenges.

We may not be able to magically disappear, but that doesn't stop us from trying.

You can probably see where this is going.

As hunters, our cloak of invisibility is our camel. I'm Joseph von Benedict and this is the backcountry hunting

podcast. Today we're going to talk about camouflage, when it's appropriate, when if ever

it's not appropriate, and what works, brands, types, usage, and so forth.

First, I want to just talk about something that you may not be anticipating.

This was prompted by a listener in Alaska who posed the question.

When is Camo not appropriate?

Certainly there are times when it's not necessary.

In fact, there are some people who argue that for the bulk of hunting activities

camouflage is not necessary to accomplish your task.

But there's also a side of this question that I want to talk about where some cultures feel like

camouflage is actually inappropriate. Okay what are those times? First I'd say it's

when the local culture, including the hunting culture, considers it unclassy.

Now this is common in parts of the world away from the United States.

Here in the United States wearing camouflage to the restaurant in the evening may get you labeled as a redneck, you know, somebody with
