guests to Trigonometry, Claire Fox and

Ella Wheeler and welcome back for anyone who doesn't know who you are Claire you

are of course the founder and director of the Academy of Ideas and very recently Brexit Party MEP for the Northwest have I got that right?

And Ellen you're a brilliant journalist and you're part of the Battle of Ideas which is one of the things that we'll be talking about and an author of course in your own right.

thanks it's a bit to have you after that very long intro we wanted to talk to you

about the Battle of Ideas the event but actually the Battle of Ideas as

the Battle of Ideas more generally about what's happening in our society,

what's happening about just our ability to have a conversation.

We've had the discussion in Parliament in the last couple of weeks about inflammatory

language, all this stuff is kicking off and it seems to be very difficult now to discuss any

ideas at all without people getting aggravated and insults being

thrown.

So where are we in terms of our ability to talk about things as a society in your opinion, Claire?

I think you feel as though societies become tongue-tied in some respects.

There's a real sense in which people are very conscious if they say the wrong thing
