Today my guests are Carla Shats and Marcus Rakell.

They're both winners of the Kavli Prize in neuroscience.

Carla's award was for her work figuring out how our brains wire themselves up.

Her goal today is to build on that research to make aging brains more resilient.

Marcus Rakel was rewarded for his breakthrough discovery that our brains never rest.

Even when we don't seem to be doing much, our brains are busy preparing for the future.

Like Carla, he too sees this insight

providing new approaches to helping aging brains,

especially those afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.

2016 when I was in Oslo helping host the award ceremony.

Carla, it's great to see you again.

You know, I still have the most wonderful memories of being together in Oslo,

and there was a reception for all of us, and I just remember having a glass of champagne with you and I think you joined my brother
