It's early morning on November 30th, 1817, and Carolina Brunswick is lying in a soft feather bed.

The sun is streaming through the window as she's listening to the sounds of the Adriatic Sea just down the hill.

Honestly, it's probably simpler for me to just say, it's a paradise morning in Pasaro, Italy.

Yeah, sounds like it.

Caroline's living her best White Lotus life right now.

A few years after her husband, George, was made Regent, she packed her bags and made off for Europe. He can keep dreary old England because she's totally in love with Italy.

I mean, it's been three years of drinking Prosecco, dancing until dawn, and just living the expat dream life.

Just living on a bed of carbs.

My real dream.

Caroline reaches over to the pillow next to her, but it's empty.

Her Italian lover has already crept back to his room,

which is probably a good thing because they should at least try to behave.

Caroline knows she's being reckless, but it's hard to play by the rules out here in paradise.

Plus, George and the rest of the stuck-up Brits feel so far away.

So Caroline rolls back over and starts to drift to sleep.

But then there's a knock at the door.

So she pulls a sheet over herself and gets up.

It's got to be lover boy coming by with mimosa's, right?

Caroline smiles as she opens the door.

But it's not him.

It's one of Caroline's servants, and he looks terrible.
