On the campus of Florida International University in Miami, there is a place ominously named the Extreme Events Events Institute.

They do things like map the risk of storm surge for the whole Caribbean

and study how the public perceives the threat from natural disasters.

They're also home to the International Hurricane Research

Center. And right there, next to a parking lot in front of an open field, they have

this huge bright blue airplane hangar.
