Matthew Daniels is the founder of Good of All, promoting human dignity, an organization that spreads the word of, quote, human dignity through civility and respect for

conscience throughout the world. He also holds a chair in law and human rights at the Institute of

World Politics. One project of Good of All is the creation of a curriculum in history and social

studies based on the nonviolent philosophy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Part of that curriculum is a series of profiles of Catholic individuals who nobly strove to spread civil and human rights to all. This is today's talk. Welcome, Dr. Daniels.

Tell us, tell us about the biographical study.

What is the content of this part of the curriculum?

Let me talk about just the general curriculum, too.

Where did this idea come from?

Well, you know, I work internationally trying to stop the spread of violent extremist movements by spreading principles that can inoculate minds against ideologies of violence and hatred.

And I realized that if America was to collapse, it would probably not be because of some of the movements we've been disrupting overseas.

It would be because we collapsed from within.

And I also realized that in Dr. King and in the teachings of Dr. King, we'd been given a repository of truth that could help keep the lights out

in this country.

These truths are natural law principles.

They are not original to King.

They are trained set in.

And they are expressed best, I think, in the lives of individuals who embody and express those

truths in a way that's accessible to ordinary people.

So this book that's being published by Ignatius Press, Catholic Heroes of Civil and Human Rights,

is an effort to tell the stories of some men and women who lived the principles of fundamental rights and dignity
