She is also the editor-in-chief of Fairer Disputations, the online journal of the Mercy Otis Warren Initiative for Women in Civic Life and Thought at the School for Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at ASU.

When I was invited to speak here on Catholic feminism, I experienced something of a mental whiplash. I have been studying and thinking and writing and speaking on this

theme in one way or another for more than 20 years. But the context in the world, but also in the

church too, has shifted markedly over these two decades. So before getting into the meat of my talk,

I want to share a bit of my own story,

the inspiration for my work in this area, some signs of hope, and some strange new currents.

So as one who was baptized Catholic as an infant, but then remained virtually un-catechized in a

family rent by three divorces, I experienced a profound reversion while

a student at the very liberal New England or Vermont School Middlebury College.
