large part by the contentions and dissensions and all manner of

iniquity of the people of Nephi.

At the same time, just as the light shines more clearly in a darkened world, we see the power

of goodness and Helaman's two60 Strippling Warriors.

The image of these young men carrying the banner of freedom and faith

with such unflinching goodness is one that shines right into our hearts today.

We who live in the United States know something about a nation in crisis right now

with terrible division, economic uncertainty. Such crisis and contention makes a nation

weak and deconstructs right to the foundations. That's why we could just weep as we read these chapters about the major peril that the Nephites are in,

with the Lamanites having captured many of their key cities, and such anger among them.

What's at stake is not only their nation,

but their liberty and their religion.

So much is riding on the line.
