What I wanted to do this morning is talk about the Holy Spirit as typified by the Feasts

of Israel, particularly Pentecost, but not Pentecost alone.

Turn to Matthew chapter 3 and verse 7. We have the appearance here of John the Baptist, who was preaching, and basically he was

cutting a wide swath as he was out by Jordan River, preaching about the coming of the

one awaited.

His preaching was so powerful that a contingent of Pharisees and Sadducees was sent from the temple down to the Jordan River to find out what this shouting was all about.

Matthew 3.7, but when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them,

O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come,

bring forth therefore fruits suitable for repentance.

And think not say within yourselves, we have Abraham to our father, for I say unto you that

God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

And now also the axe is laid to the root of the trees,

therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down

and cast into the fire.

I indeed baptize you with water under repentance,

but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes

I am not worthy to bear, he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.

Well, this is right at the very beginning of Jesus' public ministry, at the baptism of Jesus.
