Not too long ago, estimating distance in the field was a coveted and rare skill among hunters.

Shooters chose high velocity magnum cartridges that drove light for caliber bullets as fast as possible,

minimizing range estimation errors inside 350 yards or so in an attempt to be as lethal as possible as far as possible on animals

standing at unknown distances. Well that's all changed in the past three decades as

laser rangefinders became readily available

and became more and more effective,

precise, and powerful at extended distances.

Absolutely.

The answer might be by accident.

If you look at my career path,

but I grew up in Southern Mississippi. I grew up in Southern Mississippi.

I grew up on the coast in Ocean Springs.

It was a very small town when I lived there.

And it's the kind of area where you never see a deer in daylight.

And if you were to look at the Boone and Crockett map, it's the area that is totally devoid of any color. It is all white in the area that I came from.
