Hi there, I'm Maddie Savage, and for today's business daily, I'm in northern Sweden,

in a small snowy city called Hualeftio. A few years ago, a company called Northwalt put this place on the

map, as it's set out to build Europe's largest factory for electric car batteries here. But the startup is now in deep financial

trouble. Its CEOs resigned and around 1,600 people have lost their jobs. This is not a very

glamorous day for Sweden. You know, investors that lost money are going to be hesitant to invest

again in a similar project and there's going to be a backlash for sure.

In this program, I'll be digging into the wider impact.

How is North Vault's downfall affecting global tech talent who've been made redundant?

Europe's competitiveness in producing electric batteries.

And Sweden's reputation as a leader in green industry.

There is a lot of strong innovation happening in Sweden and there is a very strong tradition.

So I think we really need to keep in mind that it's not just about one company.

So the weather is bleak in Hualephtia, grey skies, snow blowing around in cold winds, icy pavements.

But hundreds of people are having an even gloomier winter the most here

because they've lost their jobs at North Fult's nearby Battery Factory.

Just across the road from here, there's a big recruitment event

designed to help them find new companies to work for.

and the Swedish Employment Service.
