They are told that this conference move to Ohio.

They've lost everything and so to make this kind of a move is really asking a lot.

It's in the middle of the winter, they are needing resources and Emma is expecting again.

To pull a wagon through the snow like that, very unsafe, very difficult.

But unfortunately when they arrive on February 4th,

you told me that the wagon turned over. Joseph goes ahead and Emma's with the wagon. She's going

down the hill and the wagon gets out of control, slides down and turns over. And she falls off.

Welcome back to come follow church history. I'm Lynn Hilton Wilson and I'm thrilled today to have Mark Staker to talk about the historical background of coming to Ohio.

Sections 37 and 38, 39, and 40 have a lot of wonderful information on this area that you've done so much research.

And I'd love to try to look at some of the hard questions. I'd love to see how we can come

closer to Christ. But by understanding the history, the scriptures come alive. So I'm thrilled to have

an expert on Curtland here.

I want to give a little bit of historical background on the question that I often refer to was

Joseph, a product of his environment.

You know, we're now into Jacksonian America.

And the tariffs that he put forth and the acts of Congress

to remove the Native Americans from that land and to open it up were very much a part of

Joseph's life at this time. During the 1830s, this early portion, President Jackson actually ran

for president under the banner of destroying the federal bank. And from what I understand, the inflation

during these early days in Kirtland was rampant across the

nation because of President Jackson's efforts to change this bank.
