Last time we left Boone in the summer of 1778.

He had just escaped from his Shawnee captors

and reached Boonsboro, warning the settlers of the approach of a large army

under Blackfish, who had been Boone's adopted father during his time in captivity.

Three notes. First, Boone had put on a show for the Shawnee during his time in captivity,

acting as if he loved living with them, and his allegiance was to the Shawnee people.

Second, remember that when Boone, along with more than two dozen other men,

had surrendered in February to Blackfish in the Shawnee, he had promised to return in the summer with the Indians and

orchestrate the surrender of Boonsboro.

And third, when Boone did reach Boonsboro, there were some who were less than pleased.

A handful of people accused Boone of working with the British and the Native peoples and basically accused him of being a traitor.
