0:23.4	Today we wrap up the introduction to the Book of Judges and God tells us that he has left
0:27.6	a handful of Canaanite leaders in the land as a test for the Israelites.
0:31.9	Today we also get to meet the first four judges, all of whom are pretty good by comparison
0:36.2	to the others we'll read about.
0:38.6	Early on we find out that Israel has forgotten God and are worshipping Baal and the Osteroth,
0:43.4	and God takes credit for selling them into slavery, just like he warned them he would do
0:47.3	when this happened.
0:49.1	After eight years they finally cry out to God and he raises up the first judge to save
0:53.5	them.
0:54.5	And remember that the judges were talking about here are more like military commanders and
0:58.2	civil leaders than someone who sits in a courtroom with a gattle.
1:02.0	The first judge is Othnale, whom you may remember as Caleb's nephew slash son-in-law.
1:07.1	The text says God's spirit was upon him and he gave him victory.
1:11.1	Then they had peace for 40 years, but then the Israelites decide they prefer sin over
1:15.7	peace and they rebel again.
1:17.6	So God strengthens their enemy against them, King Eglond of Moab.
1:21.8	He gathered some allies and they attacked Israel and take back Jericho, which was Israel's
1:26.1	first conquest in the Promised Land.
