Summary

One of my favorite periods of Dead music to explore is this January 1969 run at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco CA, and this week I decided to feature this set form January 26th. Is it complete? probably not.. is it pristine? certainly not the opening Cryptical which has a spot not far from the beginning that will test your patience.. be patient it is worth it, most of this tape sounds *great*, both in sound quality and the quality of the music. This set contains a rare version of 'Clementine'.. check out the lyrics.. it's quite a rarity. The 'Death Don't Have No Mercy' is as powerful as ever.. and the rest of the set, from 'Dark Star' on is pure powerful psychedelic Grateful Dead. These versions of 'The Eleven' and 'Turn on Your Lovelight' were used for the 'Live/Dead' release.

0:22.0	played some great sets and there's some real fine recordings of these shows so
0:26.0	This week. I'm going to bring you one from January 26 1969 at the Avalon Ballroom
0:31.7	starts out rough it has spots where it are a little rough,
0:35.0	but all in all pretty fine recording with some really great music on it.
0:40.0	Starts out with a cryptical envelopment into drums into the other one.
0:43.4	This is probably the worst part of the recording.

0:51.7	I like to include everything I have and I think it's worth hearing.
0:55.9	Anyway, it goes cryptical into drums, into the other one, into cryptical, into a really rare and quite interesting Clementine a song they didn't play very often

1:11.6	set to supposedly starts with a dark star.
1:14.8	It's got a little cut in it, into St Stephen,
1:16.8	into the 11, into turn on your lovelight.
