This is a bit of a surprise, cholesterol does not drop very well on a Mediterranean diet.

But when it came to blood pressure, the people in the vegan group, their blood pressure

I think it's the polyphenols in the extra virgin olive oil.

They seem to have a blood pressure lowering effect.

The reason olive oil has polyphenols is it comes from an olive, and olive is a fruit.

And all of its fruit cousins are loaded with polyphenols.

And the point about olive oil being a good source is just that they go to the factory
