0:00.0	Welcome. It is the Ben Ferguson show. It is so nice to have you with us live from the White House and sitting in front of me as a woman that has taken on a almost impossible task. I was so excited when I heard this name, Linda McMahon, and if you don't know the history of Linda, you need to Google it because she has done some amazing things in her career.
0:22.1	And you get this job, you get a phone call to become the United States Secretary of Education.
0:27.2	How did this even come about? How was the phone call that you received from the president?
0:31.7	I got to know the backstory real quick because I think it's so fascinating.
0:35.0	Well, good morning and thank you very much for having me, Ben.
0:38.9	It will, you may or may not recall, but I was the co-chair of the transition committee for the president.
0:44.8	So we were putting in place all of the different cabinet secretaries, et cetera.
0:49.2	And, you know, I'm working on everybody else's department and the president talks to me and he says,
0:54.9	look, he says, I've got the perfect place for you. And I said, oh, okay, what are you thinking?
0:59.7	He said, Department of Education. I said, well, you realize that my background is not, you know,
1:05.3	in the world of education, although I got my certificate to teach and I was prepared to teach French.
1:13.9	I also served on the Connecticut State Board of Education.
1:19.9	And then I've been on the Board of Trustees at Sacred Heart University for 16 years.
1:21.6	I said, so I do have education background.
1:22.0	Yeah.
1:25.2	And he said, look, here's what I want to do with the Department of Education.
1:26.2	I want to shut it down.
1:27.3	And so I laughed.
1:33.5	I laughed and I said, so in other words, excuse me, I said, so in other words, you want me to preside over my own demise?
1:35.2	And he laughed out loud and he said, yep, he said, I do want you to do that.
1:39.7	He said, and here's what I need.
1:41.1	He said, rather than have an educator in place to do this, what I really need is a business person.
