Today we're going to be talking about do men become more sensitive to D.HT as they age despite

having lower androgen levels?

So there's this common misconception that men produce more DHT as they get older.

And that's why, you know, you have more hair loss in old age rather than in your youth.

And I sort of already touched on that in my previous

video where you don't produce more DHD as you get older. It's actually not the case whatsoever.

But then the theory arises is do you become more sensitive to the DHD you do produce or do your

androgen receptors upregulate to kind of pick up the slack for the deficit of

androgenic activity occurring because you're just producing less testosterone and as a result

of less testosterone you're producing less dhc too so do you produce do your androgen receptors

upregulate as you age to kind of like fill the void so in regards to testosterone dhc levels it's still

unknown whether the requirements of elderly men are identical to the requirements of young men

for like physiologic functions and whatnot so there's some evidence to suggest that there is

increased sensitivity to androgens in elderly males.

So, for example, at the level of the feedback system, some studies, not all of them,

but some show a decrease in androgen receptor concentration in tissues of elderly men and elderly

animals suggesting a saturation of the receptor sites at a lower testosterone concentration and a decrease of the

maximal genomic effect of testosterone. Also changes in the CAG repeat length of the AR gene

may be involved in age-related decline of plasma testosterone levels. The latter appears to decline

more rapidly in subjects with a lower number
