0:31.8	We are back and ready to dive into Doctrine and Covenants 1.
0:32.9	That is correct.
0:39.0	We've done the preliminaries and now it's time to get to the, to the meat. This is where we're starting the study of one of the holy books of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
0:43.7	So a couple of things. This is popularly known as the preface to the doctrine and covenants. For the
0:49.1	most part, the doctrine and covenants is chronological. It hasn't always been that way. When it was
0:53.3	first published in 1835, they kind of numbered the sections by order of importance. But since about 1876, it's been
0:59.7	chronological. This is the exception. This one actually is not section one. If we were going by
1:06.5	strict chronology, this would probably be published between Section 67 and Section 68. And the reason
1:12.9	why it's Section 1 is because they intended for it to be the first section of the doctrine
1:17.5	covenants. They wanted it to be the opening. And it really does do a beautiful job kind of
1:21.9	outlining the purposes of the work in the latter days and the reasons why this marvelous work had to be carried out
1:29.2	by the Lord also. At this point, I mean, we're talking November 1831, and Joseph Smith has
1:35.9	relocated his family to Ohio. He's already traveled to Missouri and identified the location for
1:42.4	the city of Zion. And now he's decided to move down to stay with John and Nelson Johnson,
1:48.6	planning to work on his biblical translation project and also spend time with him and Emma's children.
1:55.3	They've lost three children at this point, but they adopted the Murdoch twins and they wanted a little family time, I think.
2:00.7	And the Johnsons have this comfortable little setting that's there.
