Hello, welcome back to Scripture Central, where we try to build enduring faith in Jesus Christ

by illuminating restored scripture. And I'm so excited today to talk about the restoration of the

priesthood. I'm going to talk about the church history following Section 13, but I want to address

some of these hard questions and try to find honest answers.

So please come follow church history with me as we answer some of these hard questions.

If the Melchestered was so important, why don't we have it recorded with a date?

In fact, was the whole higher priesthood an afterthought of Joseph Smith's?

Why was authority important?

What's the difference between the priesthood power and the purpose of the priesthood or priesthood keys?

When was the Melchizedic priesthood restored?

And then later on, we'll talk about race in the priesthood and women in the priesthood but in this lesson we'll

just stick with the history that follows section 13 and so as a little short review on

april 7th joseph and oliver begin translating what we now refer to as the book of mormon and in timeline, as I continue on, they're not very far into

the translation, May 15th, 1829, when they have questions about authority and they go and pray

about it and John the Baptist restores the Aaronic priesthood

and then Oliver and Joseph are able to baptize each other in the Susquehanna River.

Later in May, Joseph and Oliver visit Mr. Knight in Coltsville, New York for more provisions. We don't know exactly when the Melchesdic

priesthood was restored, but Mr. Knight remembers it was in conjunction with that visit.

And we also have other records that says it arrived when Joseph was still in harmony. So I think

it was probably in later May. In June, he travels the

100 plus, maybe 100 and even 40 miles when people who have checked the map every single little

post office road that went through from Harmony, Pennsylvania to Fayette, New York,
