Previously on Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World, we're talking about whether the Bible teaches

that we live on a young earth. For many centuries, Jews and Christians have read the Bible and

thought that the world is only a few thousand years old. But after the scientific revolution began,

many began to suspect that it's far, far older, billions of years old. We need to look at these two

theories from both the perspectives of faith and reason and we need to look at the faith perspective

the results of science are always provisional. So if we could show from the faith perspective that

God has revealed that the earth is only a few thousand years old, that would settle the matter

and we could save ourselves a lot of work. We'll thus look at the evidence from the sources of faith

first and then if it turns out they're not conclusive, we'll look at the scientific evidence

from the reason perspective. Ancient historical writers sometimes grouped material in topical rather

than chronological order. All this means that we need to be attentive to the fact that the biblical

authors sometimes organize material in a topical way rather than a chronological way. Could those

days be a literary device? Meaning that they're not literal and the biblical author is simply giving

us an account of the work of the creator that's organized by topic rather than by time. Well here's
