Hey, this is Trey. Thank you for joining us for a Tuesday edition of our podcast.

Was in the beautiful state of Florida this week with my colleague and friend, former Congressman

Harold Ford Jr., who is on the extremely popular show called The Five.

We met some wonderful people at a group called the Madison Institute,

James Madison Institute, which of course got me thinking of James Madison and the Madisonian model of government that we have.

You know, Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence was incredibly aspirational,

but someone had to put those aspirations as best mere mortals can into a governing document.

And Madison played an essential role in doing that. Because Madison understood human nature.

He understood ambition is part of our core.

It is not to be tamed.

It is to be countered with ambition.

He understood nature abhors a vacuum.

When one branch decreases, the other branches will increase.

We have this, what I call branch equilibrium.

And if one of the branches rises in power, by necessity, at least one, if not both other branches, decrease in power.

And that really occurs without trying.

It's just human nature.

It's expedient by that.

I mean, it's efficient.

You know, President Obama wanted action on immigration.

He said he would do it alone.

He had a pen and a phone.
