Always a pleasure.

So we've had, Jared, we've had you on when your book Captives came out.

And this is your second book about Rikers and you're joined

with a fellow ex-resident of Rikers, David Campbell. Do you want to tell us a little bit about yourself, David?

Yeah, I'm a writer and translator primarily. I served a year on Rikers Island. I wrote a book about

the social world of sentenced men at Rikers Island with the

honorable Jared Shanahan presence with us today, as you know.

And how did you two meet?

You did not meet at Rikers, but...

No.

We served our sentences a few years apart.

We were put in touch by mutual friends when I was facing my, my charges, and it was looking

increasingly probable that I would have to do some time.

I was not thrilled about that.

And my friends and comrades, especially those on my defense committee, were putting me in

touch with people who had served time for for cases related to political activism and uh and

jared was one of them you mentioned the uh four questions that everybody asks when you're in there well
