We have ancestors who came here and lived their entire lives in slavery.

They were born into slavery. Some of them lived to be 70, 80, 90 years old. They died

enslaved, right? And we have gotten to live in the moment that is the overflow of all

of the victories that they didn't get.

And so the idea that it will happen fast simply because we want it is also rooted in this narrative that we have about the fact that we will uniquely fight harder than they fought,

rather than that we are living in the conditions that they made possible because they live to fight another day.

We have another episode of election time with A&B here for you today. This one is with the

Crunk Feminist herself, Brittany Cooper and I'm really excited. I've been catching Brittany in conversation with

Rebecca Traster and others talking about the selection, talking about being with black women, talking about being a professor who

has students who has she's trying to protect who have been involved in the

encampments, like just walking this line that many of us are walking right now,

being a black woman who doesn't want genocide or fascism and how she's navigating that.

So I wanted her to come on and just I want you out of here how intelligent and nuanced some of these perspectives are and just how much, yeah, just there's a lot happening at the level of the heart in this conversation.

And I particularly wanted someone to speak who is looking at how black women are

participating in the voting process with a longer lens. Everyone I've brought

into this series is someone who looks at organizing through a longer lens

than just this moment, both looking back at our patterns and looking forward at what is possible,

depending on how we move through this moment.

So I hope it's a conversation that you learned from,

as I did, and that you send some gratitude to Dr Cooper for the space that she

continuously holds under great attack with love for our people.
