Summary

In this episode, Sadie takes us through the four main ways in which people get sucked into fundamentalism

In general we talk about a lot of potentially triggering topics on this show, including but not limited to suicide and mental health, racism, misogyny, PTSD and PTSD symptoms, child abuse, mental, physical, and sexual abuse, and spiritual abuse including guilt, shame, and fear. In most episodes we’ll mention at least a few of these topics, but we try very hard to avoid graphic detail unless it’s relevant to the story we’re telling, and we do our best to give the audience a heads-up before going into detail on any of these topics. This episode will briefly mention miscarriage, infertility,the death of a young child, families that struggle with addiction, unstable family dynamics, and various types of child abuse, and we will be going into detail on cult manipulation tactics like love bombing and other types of coercion.

1:23.5	And I'm really just happy to be talking about this topic to begin with because what we're talking about today is why people join cults, why people join fundamentalism to begin with.
1:34.3	Right. What are some of the common chain reactions as far as life experiences go? And how do normal people like you and me end up fundamentalist? We're going to get deep into all of that.
1:48.4	Right, because you were born into it. So this isn't your experience. This is what you've seen happen with other people.
1:55.1	Right. So last week we talked about Paul and Morgan Olegis. We talked about Kelly Havens. We're two Christian
2:02.8	fundamentalism influencer channels. And I would say that they're on pretty much the opposite
2:07.5	ends of the spectrum of like vibes. One is, yeah, one's very clickbaity, one's very topic
2:14.5	oriented, trying to come in with the hot take on whatever the issue of the day is.
