Summary

Christian baker Jack Phillips just won his historic Supreme Court case, Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. What is it, what does it mean, and is it a win for the First Amendment? Also, we'll hear about a high school valedictorian who was censored for talking about God in his graduation speech. I'll quickly cover Bill Clinton and Miss America and then answer two audience questions: "Is birth control moral?" and "Why aren't you Catholic?" Copyright CRTV. All rights reserved. Hey guys, welcome to episode 13. I think it's, I think it's 13 of CRTV's relatable with me,

0:07.2

Ali Stucky. For those of you who don't know, this is a podcast that discusses relevant

0:12.8

cultural, political, and theological issues from a conservative and reformed Christian perspective.

0:18.8

Last week we talked about free speech, what it is, what it isn't, why it's important,

0:24.0

and we touched on another part of the First Amendment, which is religious liberty,

0:28.0

and that is what we are going to focus on today, at least partly. We are going to discuss the

0:33.9

masterpiece cake shop, Supreme Court case, which involves two gay men and a Christian cake baker,

0:40.1

as well as a lower level case taken on by First Liberty Institute about Sam Blackledge,

0:46.1

the valedictorian at an Illinois high school who was censored a graduation for planning to

0:51.8

include remarks about his faith in his commencement address. And then I will touch on a

0:57.2

couple other topics in the news, including Bill Clinton and Miss America. I will also answer a

1:02.0

couple of your questions that you guys sent me, you sent me a ton of really good ones, but I only

1:06.6

ever have time for a couple. So I'm going to answer one regarding the morality of birth control that

1:12.0

I think I got last week, and then another question involving Catholicism. But first before I do

1:18.2

any of that, I want to point out a mistake that I made on last week's podcast regarding the religious

1:22.8

liberty report I cited. I said that Secretary Pompeo released a religious liberty report last week,

1:28.4

which he did, but that was not actually the report I read from. I read from the 2017 United

1:34.9

States Commission for International Religious Freedom, which is different. And also not the most

1:39.6

up-to-date report, which is their report from 2018. All of the facts that I read to you are correct,

1:44.4

but I somehow, and honestly, I don't know how. I am not careless. I don't know what happened.

1:51.5

I cited the wrong report and said inaccurately who actually released the report. So I apologized

1:56.8

for that, but I just wanted to let you guys know. Okay, moving on. Let's get into the masterpiece
