Welcome in to another edition of Rick and Bubba University, the podcast, Professors Burges and Busy here handing out degrees now who are those I don't know who they are you it's almost like I've been doing a show already today

and my mouth has no more words but but I will tell you, Bubba, we are excited.

Gary Burley is going to be our guest. But also we have Donna Frankavilla who co-wrote the book

along with Ralph Brooks, but we have two of the three that put together

this incredible book on a part of history.

You know when you think about, you know, Black History Month, you think about the history of our country where we are

located in Birmingham the the center of the civil rights movement a lot of stories

you know you've heard them and you're pretty familiar with them.

I will tell you this book is going to document some things that I knew nothing about.

I didn't know about these historic men that are documented here in the book so without further ado

hello how you guys doing we're good Donna hello yeah hello. Hello. Yeah. Happy to be here. Well we're glad you here why don't you kind of either Donna Gary either one who wants to take the lead on this why don't you tell those that are watching or listening to this podcast what was the

inspiration for this book what were you hoping to accomplish that was Gary

all right Gary well I tell you I in 2014 I had cancer and I was in the hospital for like four months and I met

a gentleman that played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and we started keeping in touch with each other and we we start talking about doing a book or doing a you know some kind of promotion for it and he passed away and I started thinking more and more about the book and I met Donna in her

neighborhood and we started talking and she told me she was a author, author, and a journalist in the whole nine yards.

So I started thinking, you know, let's put together something that tells the story of the first

African Americans in the National Football League.

This has never been done before and that's how it started.
