Hello and welcome to my Victorian nightmare.

0:06.0

I'm your host, Genevieve Mannion, and I'm here to talk about mysterious deaths, morbid fascinations, disturbing stories, and otherwise spooky events from the Victorian era.

0:19.0

Because to me, there's just something especially intriguing,

0:23.3

creepy, and oddly comforting about horror and mayhem from the 19th century. So, listener discretion

Hello, friends, and welcome to this, my 21st episode. I have some very upsetting things to tell you today that I think you will very much enjoy, because it's all fascinating and terrifying, but it's also Christmas themed. Isn't that nice? I also have to apologize, because I thought I was sick last week. But jeepers, that was baby town. I got hit with

1:02.7

1:41.8

and they began at about the same time, 1860-ish. Almost all of the

1:46.3

articles that I read on the show have come from the American version. That article, though,

1:51.5

about the poor man killed by a coffin in the episode before last, that was from the English one.

1:57.1

Any time that you see any of the famous illustrations of Jack the Ripper crime scenes, for example,

2:03.3

they came from the London-based Illustrated Police News. My listenership is mostly American,

2:09.6

but second to us, Yanks, are you darlings from the UK. 15% of you join me for this creepy little

2:16.2

show, so I thought I'd dedicate this episode to you.

2:19.7

I also thought that it might be extra Christmassy to take a little trip across the pond to Dickens' Victorian hometown.

2:30.2

So today, I will be discussing a family hatchet fight, an assault with a pot roast, an assault

2:37.1

with a teapot, a fruit and nut plundering, an insane chimney sweep, a grisly Christmas
